SEX NEEDS A RELATIONSHIP: How to improve your sex life

SEX NEEDS A RELATIONSHIP: How to improve your sex life

Are you in a long-term relationship that has seen your sex life diminish or decline? Are you guys having a lot of conflict over sex? Are you guys focused on how to do it and who to initiate? Does sex feel frustrating, disconnecting and lacking intimacy? Do you want to feel connected, close and desired by your partner? Are you wanting a better sex life?

Many people mistakenly think that sex causes intimacy, desire, connection and closeness. This idea is often what creates the problem. People think that it is enough to show up or initiate and then sex will take over.

Sex requires a relationship for it to work. Sex is a dance between two people. Sex is a form of communication between two people. Sex is a form of fun and play between two people. So, if the two people who are in relationship have break down in communication in other areas of their sex life, are not having fun in other areas of their sex life or are feeling hurt or angry at each other, sex won’t work.

Sex requires a relationship. Sex comes out of the relationship and it is an expression of the relationship. Sex does not cause anything. Sex comes because of the two people having it. There is no third entity that will cause it.

One of the biggest mistakes people make is making sex completely disconnected from the relationship and focusing on the doing part. People will focus on techniques, gimmicks, tricks, costumes. People will focus on making the other person a problem, blaming one another. All of these things further destroy the relationship and make sex harder.

All in the Family Counselling Centre and lead therapist, Tammy Fontana, clinical sex therapist and marriage therapist, help couples rekindle and reignite their sex life. Tammy Fontana does this through a variety of interventions of therapy, helping couples to develop relationship skills, communication skills and increasing their knowledge about sex and intimacy within a long-term relationship.
